Reposting because this is a zoo stan account and I have no chill about our community waking up to the Zoo’s potential
We love the Little Rock Zoo and our membership is some of the best money we pay all year!!
Our kid loves walking around to see all of the animals and being able to go more freely as a local, we are able to pop in and out easily without the pressure to “see it all” like someone who only comes a couple of times a year. It can be hit and miss with who is out, but animals are living creatures. They ebb and flow. The more you go, the more you see the animals in their natural states and appreciate them.
When the weather is nice, it’s a beautiful way to just get out and take a walk. There’s multiple play areas and places to sit and just be.
I can’t speak for folks beyond Little Rock, but it is definitely a gem of my life right in the middle of the city. The children’s library, the zoo, and the splash pad are the perfect itinerary for a low cost day with kids in the summer.
We travel and OBVIOUSLY our zoo is smaller than St. Louis, Memphis, and Dallas. We are not those cities and we have much room to improve.
They could definitely use more funding to expand the habitats and have more offerings but those things cost money. I am not a major donor but my membership is the patronage I can afford so it’s the level I always support.
You make the most of the Zoo when you actually go. The more people that go, the better opportunities they will have for funding.
It’s a chicken and egg situation for sure, but the leadership and staff of the zoo goes out of their way to share their efforts and aspirations for the Zoo and they deserve more support. if you want to see the change you have to BE the change and actually do your part to support what you want to see.
